Pennsylvania Domestic Violence Arrests

admin | March 30, 2009

Police in Norristown arrested two men on Pennsylvania domestic violence charges, according to this news report. Brian Spangler, a 38-year-old Parker Ford man allegedly pulled a knife during a dispute with a woman in an office who had a Protection From Abuse (PFA) order against him. Police arrived at Logan Square Shopping Center at the woman’s place of work when they saw her look “visibly shaken.” The woman apparently told officers that she had a PFA. Spangler took off on foot, but police wrestled him to the ground and arrested him. He was charged with resisting arrest, simple assault, possessing a weapon and harassment.

In another incident 36-year-old Edward Maddox was arrested on suspicion of beating his pregnant girlfriend after she told him repeatedly to turn down the music he was playing. The woman was found with blood on her face and marks on her neck. The woman told officials that she feared for her own life, but was concerned that Maddox would injure the unborn child. During the attack, he threatened to kill her and put a pillow over her face. Police apparently found the suspect hiding in a vacant apartment across the hall and arrested him.

John Travolta’s Son Suffers Traumatic Death Due To Head Injury

admin | March 13, 2009

According to initial reports, John Travolta’s teenage son, Jett Travolta, died on January 1, 2009 as the result of an accident in a bathroom. Jett was vacationing in the Bahamas with his family when he fell. His full time nurse, Jeff Kathrein, along with the manager of the hotel, discovered Jett on the floor at approximately 10 a.m. on New Years Day. Kathrein immediately began resuscitative measures. When John Travolta discovered his son, he took over the CPR and continued for some time.

Jett was a diagnosed epileptic and had suffered numerous seizures prior to this accident. According to initial investigations, it remains unclear whether the seizure led to his slip and fall accident or whether the accident provoked a seizure. Much of the initial inside information about the case has come from Michael McDermott — a close friend of the Travoltas — as well as Michael Ossi — the Travoltas’ attorney.

The slip and fall death received sensationalist coverage in the media due both to John Travolta’s status as mega celebrity and to his affiliation with the Church of Scientology, a controversial religious organization that boasts numerous celebrity converts, including Jenna Elfman, Tom Cruise and Kirstie Alley.

Patricia Arquette Cites Irreconcilable Differences as Reason for Suing For Divorce

admin | March 11, 2009

On January 5, 2009, actress Patricia Arquette – perhaps best known for her starring role in the NBC series Medium — filed suit in Superior Court to dissolve her two and a half year marriage to Thomas Jane. The couple married in May of 2006, and they have a five year old daughter together named Harlow whom Patricia Arquette is aiming to get full child custody.

Sources close to the couple suggest that tensions between the pair began to boil late in 2008, when Jane admitted to having driven drunk. Some speculate that Jane — who has acted in such movies as The Punisher (2004) and The Mist (2007) — had been growing increasingly jealous of Arquette’s high profile. Others suggest that he was privately bitter over her winning an Emmy for her performance in Medium.

Patricia Arquette has retained Laura Wasser, a high profile Los Angeles divorce attorney who has handled numerous other celebrity divorce cases, including Stevie Wonder’s and Britney Spears’ divorces.

Star of “Lost” Wins Skirmish in Separation Battle

admin | March 6, 2009

On January 7, 2009, celeb gossip site TMZ.com reported that Naveen Andrews, one of the stars of the hit series “Lost,” emerged from Los Angeles Superior Court after winning sole child custody of his three year old boy, Naveen Joshua. The TV star’s estranged “baby mama,” Elena Eustache, had made wild allegations that the elder Naveen and his new girlfriend, Barbara Hershey, had been practicing voodoo witchcraft on the child. According to reports, Eustache was worried that Naveen Joshua was going to be poisoned. Naveen Andrews’ Attorney, Laura Wasser, argued at Superior Court that Eustache was not psychologically healthy, and the judge seemed to buy Wasser’s argument by awarding Naveen Andrews sole custody until a hearing the following month. After the charged courtroom confrontation, Eustache was seen crying to herself on a bench. She offered TMZ an angry quote about how celebrities always get their way. Naveen Andrews, on the other hand, quickly got on a plane with young Naveen Joshua to Hawaii, where the elder Naveen shoots his TV show.

Massive Divorce Lawsuit May End Up Being the Biggest Ever

admin | March 4, 2009

Texas business magnate David Saperstein recently announced to his wife Suzanne that he wanted a divorce. The circumstances wouldn’t have been too extraordinary, but for the fact that the announcement occurred while both David and Suzanne were flying over Texas in their own private Gulfstream IV plane. The Sapersteins had been known for years as a high profile couple. David Saperstein built his fortune from the ground up by developing a system of traffic reports which he later sold to mega-broadcaster Westwood; one for more than one and a quarter billion dollars.

Suzanne Saperstein had made a name for herself in the international press by exhibiting a passion for both haute couture and furniture from the 1700’s. Vanity Fair did a famous profile on the Sapersteins in 2002. This piece featured Suzanne Saperstein at her massive home in Los Angeles, Fleur De Lys.

According to inside information, Saperstein left his wife to be with Hillevi Svensson, the house nanny whom — according to the New York Post — many describe as Suzanne a few decades younger.

The assets that will likely be battled over and discussed with property division attorneys include a $100 million villa in Beverly Hills, a Gulfstream IV private jet, and a massive collection of furniture from the 1700’s.

Even if your upcoming divorce is not as “high stakes” as the Sapersteins’, you need effective and efficient representation to ensure that you are fairly treated in settlement or court. Consider retaining the services of Sheryl R. Rentz. Our skilled Pennsylvania divorce lawyers fight to achieve the desired outcome for every single client.
